PhD student
My name is Phuong and I joined the lab as a PhD student in the EVOLF consortium. I studied Nanobiology for both my bachelor’s and master’s degree, where I started to become interested in cryo-EM. I was able to learn about cryo-EM single-particle analysis during my internship in Arjen’s lab studying the structure of nanobody-GTPase complexes. After finishing my MSc and hooked by cryo-EM, I decided to re-join the lab, as a PhD student this time! Since the EVOLF project is about building components for synthetic cells, I will be working on structural studies of dynamin-like proteins that might assist the division of synthetic cell using cryo-EM. As you can guess from my last name, I am from Vietnam, and I have been living in the Netherlands since my bachelor years.
In my free time, I enjoy trying new Asian restaurants and drinking bubble tea with my friends (a very Asian thing to do I guess). I also enjoy crocheting small stuff as gifts for my friends (only when I have requests or there is a holiday when I need to prepare gifts).
